CHICAGO - - The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

Nashville will come alive this weekend as the National Rifle Association (NRA) rolls into town for the association's 144th Annual Meetings & Exhibits. The ISRA is proud to announce that the Illinois State affiliate will be joining the NRA in the Music City for this important event.

"Illinois' law-abiding firearm owners will be well represented at the NRA event," commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "Once again, the ISRA will have an informational booth located in the heart of the convention center. That means that tens of thousands of firearm owners from across the nation will have the opportunity to hear the ISRA story - and that's quite a story to tell. Just a few short years ago, Illinois was 'ground zero' for gun control. It seems like only yesterday that the Illinois General Assembly was on the verge of shutting down firearm retailers and banning rifles, pistols and shotguns lawfully owned by millions of Illinois citizens. However, thanks to a lot of hard work by concerned firearm owners and patriotic members of the legislature, efforts to abolish Illinois' heritage of responsible firearms ownership were turned back. In fact, gun rights in Illinois have actually taken a step forward as the state recently became the 50th state to permit citizens to carry defenive firearms. Yes indeed, the ISRA has quite a story to tell."

"The ISRA is proud to part of this event," continued Pearson. "We encourage all Illinois firearm owners to take the short trip to Nashville to take part in this mammoth exercise of personal freedom. The NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits are always quite breathtaking for first timers. We'd like to see all our members and friends stop by the ISRA booth. We'll be in Booth #8 on the concourse near the registration services."

For more than a century, the ISRA has been the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. As an 8-time recipient of the NRA "Association of the Year" award, the ISRA has faithfully represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.
