ISRA Legislative Alert - Your Action Required On Two Bills
This is a late start to this legislative session, but your action is required earlier in the process. Here are two bills to take action on, to oppose while they are still in committee, by using the links provided to fill out on-line witness slips at the ILGA website. More on witness slips below, after the bill descriptions.
SB2211 - REVOKED FOID CARD-SEIZURE
Judiciary Hearing Feb 16 2016 3:00PM
The ISRA does not oppose seizure of revoked FOID cards when done appropriately, but opposes this bill as written. The process must allow local discretion as to the method of FOID retrieval in order to best tailor the results to the community. SB2211 fails to recognize that many sheriffs and chiefs have an intimate understanding of their communities. They interact with those they serve at social events, at community events, and at church. In contrast to a Cook County approach to policing, those charged with protecting the remainder of the state are in touch, and in the best position to establish the correct method to retrieve a revoked FOID when necessary.
TO KEEP YOUR GUN RIGHTS, OPPOSE THIS BILL WITH A WITNESS SLIP BEFORE NOON ON FEB 16.
HB3160 - Lethal Violence Order of Protection Act (LVOP)
Judiciary - Criminal Committee Hearing Feb 17 2016 10:30AM
This bill is full of direct violations of Due Process for firearm owners. It is ripe for abuse with no protections against being stripped maliciously or without merit of your ability to own or possess firearms. This bill basically asserts that merely owning a firearm is seen as posing a danger. A woman who is the victim of domestic abuse, trains to protect herself with a firearm, and gets a concealed carry license could be victimized again when a LVOP is maliciously filed against her, possibly by her abuser!! This is the anti-rights crowd seeking to revoke a fundamental right with just the suspicion that the firearm owner may commit a crime. Illinois law already provides some of the strongest domestic violence protection in the nation. This is a reach too far and the ISRA opposes the bill as written.
LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD, FILE A WITNESS SLIP TO OPPOSE THIS BILL:
