Legislative Alert - Call To Action - Witness Slips Needed

Call to Action

Witness Slips Needed

HB4348 FOID Local Reg and HB4842 Safety Tech Amendment 1, would prohibit taxes and fees designed to make exercising our rights more difficult, and help those who have moved or changed their name afford the cost of a corrected license.

We ask your opposition to SB3076 IEMA Police Powers in response to the NRA's recent request for our assistance on this bill.

This bill poses an increased risk to our privacy by conferring police power to access data bases, including FOID and FCCA data, to Cook County and its Department of Homeland Security. If this becomes law, additional counties could soon gain similar authority as their populations increase.

With legislation able to move with as little as one hour notice and committee deadlines extended to 4/22, we will monitor the Legislature closely. Be sure to check our Illinois Politics forum regularly for the latest news and alerts.

All three bills are scheduled for committee hearings 4/13, as early as 9:30 AM.

Call Your Illinois House Representatives!

Last week a bill we oppose, HB3160 Lethal Violence Order of Protection, was released from committee.

With your past help we slowed its progress, but it now could be considered by the full House as early as Tuesday, 4/12. This bill remains far too broadly written, with denial of rights a possibility based only on the fact that a firearm was purchased. Illinois currently has some of the strongest domestic laws in the nation. The matters addressed by this bill, including suicide prevention, should be left to the mental health community, not the criminal justice system.

Beginning Monday, 4/11, please call your State Representative and ask them to oppose this bill when it comes up for a vote. Click here for contact information, or here for a searchable list of State Reps.
